About

The Double Session, 2013 Jutta Koether

The Double Session is an etching from two drawings on tracing paper by the artist, based on a photograph of a tableau vivant of Jacques Derrida recreating Poussin’s Massacre of the Innocents (c.1630). The number seven is embossed into the ceiling. The appearance of the four and the seven reiterate the idea of the Seasons and the Sacraments.

Limited Edition

Edition of 20. Signed and numbered by the artist.

About the Artist

For her solo exhibition Seasons and Sacraments at DCA, Jutta Koether demonstrated her distinct style inspired by two important series of paintings by the 17th century French artist Nicolas Poussin (1594 – 1665) via a series of large scale paintings.

Based in Berlin and New York, Jutta Koether is currently a professor at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg. Recent exhibitions include the Whitney and Sao Paulo Biennials, the Moderna Museet, Stockholm and the VanAbbemuseum, Eindhoven. Seasons and Sacraments is her largest exhibition in the UK to date and coincides with her inclusion the Tate Modern exhibition A Bigger Splash.
