About the Artist
Murray Robertson's work maintains an interest in traditional printmaking techniques through many years of association with the Glasgow Print Studio. It is the research, development and application of new technologies, specifically digital imaging and printing, that has most influenced Robertson's' current professional practice.
Works of deliberate graphical precision draw upon the iconography of signs and symbols inherent to the matrix of both mystical and scientific knowledge systems. Echoes drawn from diverse cultures are merged or contrasted with current "rational" and empirical paradigms in an exploration of humanity's eternal and universal quest for meaning in a seemingly intractable and unknowable world.
Murray Robertson studied at Glasgow School of Art, later becoming the Master Lithography Printer, and currently Master Printer in Digital Imaging at Glasgow Print Studio. Robertson has held exhibitions in the UK and internationally. He has participated in residencies throughout Berlin, Japan, Finland, India and Mexico. Working in collaboration with the Royal Society of Chemistry, Robertson developed and created an illustrated Table of Elements. A major exhibition of this work, "109 - Table of Elements - An Audio Visual Exploration", took place in 2007 at the Glasgow Science Centre.
