“I had had an idea that Rob Swire aspired to more melody than in his earlier work. I have no idea if it was true, but it was something I felt, so we thought of the bird as a symbol of melody - birdsong - and our bird is preparing to take flight. It may, in fact, have just been built and its maiden voyage is being witnessed by dignitaries. I thought both Dan’s design of the bird and the modelmaking by Hothouse, aka Jez Clarke, were both superb. It was a bird, not a real bird, but a musical bird, an art bird, and a beautiful thang to boot”. Storm Thorgerson
