These editions by Turner Prize-winning artist Mark Wallinger were created in collaboration with The Fruitmarket Gallery to coincide with our exhibition MARK WALLINGER MARK. Shown in two parts at DCA and The Fruitmarket Gallery, the exhibition focused on Wallinger's id Paintings- an ambitious series of large-scale Rorschach blot-like images created entirely by the artist's hands.

Wallinger has long focused on themes of identity, self-representation and exploration of the public and private ‘self’ in his work. He chose to translate this interplay of self-representation and mark making into two new limited edition multiples derived from an FBI identity form for fingerprinting.
With the first edition, titled DIY/FBI, the owner receives a form signed and numbered by the artist, and set in a display case, along with an official ink strip and disposable finger wipe. Provided with the tools and the framework of the form, each collector is left to superimpose their own mark and personal imprint on the artist’s work.
The second edition, Monoprints, exists in a more limited edition of 20, which the artist chose to create with his own fingerprints: the most immediate form of monoprinting. Each multiple carries the artist’s own imprints - simultaneously identical yet unique.
Mark Wallinger (b. England 1959) lives and works in London, England. He held two simultaneous solo exhibitions, MARK WALLINGER MARK, at Dundee Contemporary Arts and Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh in 2017. A winner of the Turner Prize in 2007, he is also well known for his installation Ecce Homo on the empty Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square (1999). Other solo exhibitions include The Freud Museum, ‘Self Reflection’, London (2016), Hauser & Wirth, ‘ID’, London (2016), Frieze Art Fair, London, (curated the booth of Hauser & Wirth, 2014), Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, ‘SITE, Gateshead (2012), Hayward Gallery, ‘Mark Wallinger: The Russian Linesman, Frontiers, Borders and Thresholds’ (2009) and the British Pavilion for The 49th Venice Biennale, Venice in 2001.
