A superb deluxe edition of our Lewis Chessmen chess set with accompanying National Museums Scotland book, The Lewis Chessmen: Unmasked.
Presented in a folding box board, oak, etched with motifs from the St. Ninian’s Isle hoard. Box and chesspieces are handmade in the UK.
The Lewis Chessmen are among the best known objects in the National Museum of Scotland. Mostly carved from walrus ivory in the late 12th and early 13th century, they were found 700 years later in the vicinity of Uig on the Isle of Lewis. 3D laser scans were taken of some of the pieces in our collection to create authentic poly-resin replicas.
This set includes a folding chess board, full set of playing pieces and a copy of the book Chessmen: Unmasked.
The oak chess board folds to create an exquisite presentation box etched with motifs from the St. Ninian’s Isle hoard. Each finely sculpted chess piece has been handmade in the UK from 3D laser scans and uses a simulated ivory finish to accurately represent the walrus ivory originals.
