About

Art on A4:

In partnership with the RA, CultureLabel created a competition for the Friends of the Royal Academy, to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the membership scheme.

The brief: Create a work of art on A4 that expresses what the Royal Academy of Arts mean to you?

The chosen artworks were selected by the judges Charles Saumarez-Smith, Chief Executive Officer of the RA, and Lucy Baxter, Commercial Director of CultureLabel - they carefully selected one winner and five runners up from over 100 excellent submissions!

This is one of six listings presenting these finalists - available now and in limited quantities.

Artist Comment:

'Hip Hip HurRAh. T rain plus bus - ideal for us, to arrive at the impressive gates and aim for the H allowed entrance hall through swing or spin door. Luring me in - akin to a warm embrace - whatever the weather. E ven the humble pigeons in the courtyard create performance art, as they shower and preen, re-enacting their rituals in the small waterfalls sprouting from paving. R eminding me of my own regular rejoicing in visiting this 'August Institution' that is the magnificent RA. O ffering an opportunity for ongoing outings with family and friends over many moons. Y early summer show. Yipee yi yo. One just has to go. A dmiring that great green cat, but not so sure about the grapefruit peel in wooden drawer. L ooking, learning, leaning in. Standing back, contemplating colour, technique, form. From Adnan to Zoffany. A ppreciating the works of artists and architects from decades before. Sensing the presence of heated debate, creaking floor, banging door. C reatives, (sometimes controversial), causing A cademicians anxiety, aside from amusement but D rawn to acknowledge the E normity involved in educating and entertaining M illions with exhibitions, courses, classes, competitions. Books to buy and cards to covet. Y ummy lunches, parties and afternoon teas. Yes Please. HooRAy for the RA.'
