Harley Moth Brooch
These beautifully decorated brooches were commissioned by The Harley Gallery and inspired by Margaret, 2nd Duchess of Portland. Margaret was an exceptional 18th woman whose vast collections of natural history objects were rival to none.
These brooches are inspired by The Portland Moth (Actebia Preacox), named after the Duchess.
“I began the process of creating a brooch by painting intricate designs using gouache and very fine brushes. I then individually hand print my designs onto sheet tinned steel and then cut, hammer, fold and press the various layers together. When finished the metal gleams through the surface colour and decoration giving each creature a jewel like intensity of colour.”
