The story behind the Swallows
The tales around the swallow are too irresistible, they have adorned many sailors in the past as this little land bird meant the shore was close by. They mate for life and are a symbol of freedom and love. They are an extremely agile bird and with their beautiful tails and cut a dynamic shape in the sky.
Getting down to work
I start with drawing my design on a flat sheet of metal then get the biggest cutting burr in my pendant drill and rough out a shape, this gets more refined with smaller burrs and detail is cut in with gravers and files then finished by hand engraving the very fine detail. When the master pattern is finished I make a mould from which castings can be made. All the casting components are then assembled and soldered together polished and cleaned to make the final piece of jewellery.
Roz is obsessed with working with gem stones and melting metal, and gets lost in hand carving little sculptures. Roz's design style is based on nature but inspiration comes from all around.
