About the Artist
Rob Churm’s etchings depict a series of surreal scenarios in which experimental and uncanny worlds collide with the familiar. Amorphous forms float in scenes that lie somewhere between intricate doodles and pre-calculated drawings. In Exploding City the artist offers up a proliferation of semi-structural forms that seem to be frozen in a moment of simultaneous deconstruction and recomposition – leaving us to reconcile the space and architecture within our mind’s eye.
"In Churm’s prolific and mainly monochromatic drawings bizarre iconography, expressionistic scrawl and the crisp discipline of graphic marks are conjoined in evoking an unknown world…it is possible to make out what is occurring within the frame, even if it doesn’t chime with any recognizable narrative….It is impossible to know what we are looking at, but it feels strangely good."
