Egyptian King Bookend
This bookend in the form of an Egyptian King wearing the 'nemes' has been inspired by an original dating from the Ptolemaic period, usually considered to be a sculptor's trial piece made of Schist.
The sculpture was marked with a grid pattern on the back so that it could be scaled up to a much larger piece by the craftsman, and would have been smoothed to this fine finish using sand.
