This Be-Bop Deluxe album cover design is one of a collection of prints launched in 2014, celebrating previously unpublished album cover art from the Hipgnosis archives.
Drastic Plastic was the last album by Be-Bop Deluxe, released in 1978. The material on the album marked a change in the musical direction of the band, with more synthpop and New Wave sounds alongside some of the progressive and glam standards. Hipgnosis took their cues from the title: 'drastic' as in vividly bright or primary colours and 'plastic' as in acrylic paint and shiny work tops. This was a purpose built set in the studio, like a kitchen area, a real place but geometric, a stylised slice of reality which might echo the music.
