About the Artist
Born in Drumchapel, Wallace grew up between the city and the countryside, and the often absurd contrasts between these two environments are evident in much of his work.
Wallace creates what he calls "landscape inventions". These are drawn from his influences, such as Bosch, Giorgione and Breughel as well as first hand study of early renaissance and medieval art, which he admires for its sense of the absurd and fascination with the unusual.
Alasdair Wallace studied at Glasgow School of Art between 1987 and 1991, specialising in painting from 1990 onwards. He has won numerous awards including the prestigious Noble Grossart Painting Prize in 2001.
