About Marit Geraldine Bostad:

The artist Marit Geraldine Bostad (1976) works and lives in Horten in Vestfold County, Norway. Her studio is at an old naval base, where she finds most of her work inspiration in the middle of great nature and historical buildings.

Marit Geraldine is originally an Art Director, with 10 years of visual projects within film, illustration and consept building in Oslo. Besides the commercial work she has always been painting - taking part in small scale art projects. In 2010 she left the art direction field for good. A change she has never regretted. ”To work with my hands and feel the materials is essential to me. I got lost in my computer, the real world became distant, cold. I simply had to get rid of all the filters and short commands, and so I did”.
”When I paint I go into another place. Not by trying, but just by being. Interaction with my tools, my colours, the white canvas. And when I am in that state – and eventually find a connection to the artwork, I have learned by time, that someone else also connects to it as well. Some might not even see the painting, but others can´t forget the meeting. My job is to search for, to know when I am there. And it demands from me that I am true to myself, dare to be open minded. Dare to search for interesting contrasts."
"The Abstract is what is left when you peel of the unnecessary belongings. What happens next, is truly fascinating. So many unique pair of eyes. So many stories. And the stories are in a constant change, like an organic creature living it´s own life. The artist is almost forgotten, and that is to me a true meeting".

I mostly paint with acrylic paint on canvas. Sometimes I reinforce a color or an expression with oil paint at the end of the process. I only use the best canvas which contains 11 % synthetic material in the mix.. This makes the canvas very solid and long lasting, not to mention great to work with.

The paint I use is only the very best and has long-lasting, eco-friendly qualities. The colors stay the same year after year with great resistance against both light and erosion. These materials keeps the artwork at its best, regardless of time.

I love my acrylic paint called Neptun, Artist Acrylics. It allows me to be spontaneous. I have painted with oil, but to continue a new layer you have to pause. I loose the nerve and the real presence, returning to the piece hours and days later. The time acrylic paint takes to dry (which is not so long) I actively use in my painting process. Sometimes "I mess up» my «perfect» motive when it is almost dry. Other times I want a sober touch and add water in the mix. The acrylic has so many great sides, and a lot of times people ask if I paint with oil. Just because I can make it look oily, thick and classic.

Materials have a great impact in the process of making an artwork. It allows you to reach beyond imagination. Surprise yourself, every time. Push you further and develop your own artistic identity.
