Meet the Artist: Abi Overland
Posted on September 29 2016
CultureLabel is delighted to introduce our new partner Abi Overland Jersey...
Abi specialises in drawing aggressively detailed images of natural and organic matter creating surreal and other worldly landscapes to get lost in.
We always want our customers to know as much as possible about our artists and designers,
so we asked Abi a few questions about her work...
Tell us something about your collections; what is your inspiration behind them?
My illustration style reflects certain aspects of my own personal style and my love of the natural world. However, I think it is more heavily influenced by my upbringing, my dad had a wonderful flair for interior design and had a great love of art deco. I think my illustrations reflect a homage to my wonderful childhood in that sense.
Tell us 5 interesting facts about you...
I worked in finance for three years before studying illustration at uni (more than enough time in an office to give you the motivation and fear to succeed in what you love!)
Both of my parents have always worked for themselves so it was always in my mind from a young age to have my own business
Sea swimming is one of my favourite pastimes, it's very grounding (and a great hangover cure!)
One of my greatest achievements would be recently illustrating a book cover for Penguin, I can't even pretend to be cool about it, it's incredibly exciting!
Big fan of Bob Dylan.
