Culture: 5 Questions With Dede Johnston
Posted on March 01 2017
Dede Johnston is a photographer with a passion for snow-laden alpine landscapes.
We met with Dede to discuss her views on culture and the future for her work.
1 - What does culture mean to you?
Culture to me means our ability as people to express collective values and local tradition and to define beauty based on our surroundings.
2 - How seminal/influencial/important do you think art is to society/culture?
The ability to express emotions and feelings is very important to humans and to society as a whole, so as expression is important, art is critically important.
3 - Do you create to live or live to create?
I live to create and I create to live.
4 - Tell us about your practise - how and where do you create your work?
I create my pieces in nature.
5 - Where is your practise going? Do you have any exciting projects coming up?
I am currently working on a project portraying the fragile beauty of ice and snow, from glaciers and icebergs to more abstract snow forms.
