Artist of the Week: Emma Forrester
Posted on January 11 2018
Here at CultureLabel we are ringing in the New Year with our first Artist of the Week of 2018 - Emma Forrester! Her delightfully bright works are alive and full of joy, and we hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
Getting her start in the theatre, Forrester was a scenic artist for productions at the Royal Opera House and on the West-End before striking out on her own to create her own works. The technical skills gained are evident in her more recent work, and contribute greatly to her very expressive tone.
In each of Forrester's works, her deep appreciation of pattern and texture is apparent, with close attention paid to careful layering to create depth in the scenes. This distinctive technique has resulted in beautifully intricate paintings of everyday items such as teacups and fruit.
"I am drawn to beautiful forms whether they are man-made or natural. My aim is to show my appreciation of the simple beauty of such objects by their sensitive portrayal in my paintings. My aim is not to 'copy' the object in paint, but rather to describe and celebrate what I see with mark making skills that have developed into my personal style as an artist."
