Vogue 100: A Century of Style

The Collections

This year British Vogue celebrates 100 years of publication with a major exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, Vogue 100: A Century of Style (11 February - 23 May 2016). The exhibition will be a showcase of the greatest moments in fashion, beauty and portrait photography.

To mark this special occasion the National Portrait Gallery shop has commissioned a collection of beautiful accessories and art prints inspired by the pages and covers of the magazine itself, and we are so pleased to be able to partner with them to bring you these incredible pieces! A rare chance to own a piece of fashion history.

The iconic and romantic images and designs make these pieces the perfect gift this Valentine's Day.

Vogue 100: A Century of Style - The Accessories

Inspired by a British Vogue cover from 1961, Patricia Nicolás has created an exclusive range of jewellery that draws on the playful and creative side of fashion. Luscious Perspex lips and provocative question marks dangle from bright gold plated chains capturing perfectly the swinging sixties and its new generation of empowered, inquisitive women.

Patricia Nicolás has been designing exquisite jewellery and with each year the Spanish born designer builds on her already impressive talent. Growing up in a family that has been Spain’s finest name in jewellery design since 1945, it is likely that such talent runs in her blood. What cannot be inherited though is her passion and dedication to her work. Armed with an innate eye for detail and quality, and an unrivalled creative vision, Patricia moved to London in order to start her own legacy and has done just that, launching her career straight out of Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design, selling her very first collection to the likes of Harvey Nichols and going on to create a highly successful company through her relentless dedication to quality, craftsmanship and creativity.

Inspired by a stunning and dramatic image taken by Cecil Beaton, the Gallery have a timeless wool hat from Laird Hat Company and a beautiful, butter soft leather bag by Anna Pugh. Laird are passionate about sourcing the best British cloths, and in turn, supporting British textile manufacturing. The hat evokes a rich English and Scottish heritage, with a modern nuance. The great fabric finish and rich colour makes it a stand out piece, but the classic shape and wonderful craftsmanship means it's a true wardrobe staple.

British bag designer and maker, Anna Pugh, comes from a background in the clothing industry. As a successful creative pattern cutter, she worked for both high street and designer labels, developing her passion for creating pleasing shapes and lines and exploring how they fit and fold around the human form. An exclusive design for the National Portrait Gallery, Pugh cuts, makes and finishes every bag herself in her workshop in Hove.

Karen Mabon has designed two elegant yet quirky silk scarves exclusively for the Gallery. Mabon has taken inspiration from the magazines archives to create the playful designs. Printed in Italy and hand rolled these scarves are wearable works of art. Karen weaves whimsical and surprising narratives throughout her work. A landscape populated with a distinctive array of hand-drawn characters and contexts presents a playful palette of designs to explore and enjoy. Combining her skill and expertise as an artist and designer with her passion for materials and accessories, Karen, much like British Vogueitself, has blurred the boundaries between art and fashion.
