5 Reasons Why We Love Mineheart
Posted on July 08 2016
Mineheart was launched in 2010 by designers Brendan Young and Vanessa Battaglia, the founders of design studio Young & Battaglia.
Heralded as one of the top ten design studios of the future at 100% Design in 2005 their work has been shown at the V&A and their Love 36 Chair is in the permanent collection at MOMA in Monaco.
“Our aim for Mineheart is to work with passion, authenticity and inject art, poetry and love into everyday life and the objects around us. We focus on storytelling and creating something truly surprising,” Brendan explains. “We only produce things that make us both smile. That’s our one rule!”
Vanessa explains: “Why shouldn’t we live closely with art? That’s what Mineheart is all about – making what might be ordinary, like a piece of furniture, truly exceptional and personal.”
Over the last five years the brand has grown and they now have more than 150 products covering lighting, wallpaper, art, furniture and accessories and sell all over the world.
5 Reasons Why We Love Mineheart
1) Their passion
The name Mineheart was inspired by the Shakespearian quotation "Mine eye and heart..." and represents the partnership between eye and heart that creates great design. It symbolises their dual passions; love for tradition and eye for contemporary design which are often combined in surprising ways in the Mineheart range.

2) Founders Young and Battaglia have a reputation for mashing up styles and genres in endlessly surprising ways
Having both trained and worked in product design, they started a design consultancy together in 2003 out of which grew their Mineheart collection. Battaglia's Italian passion, combined with Young's British wit and love of British eccentricity has created a family of products with a playful quirky quality. Brendan and Vanessa are known for their clever re-working of materials and references to traditional imagery and the result is in an unexpected aesthetic that fuses past and present and blurs the line between art and design.

3) They collaborate with the coolest artists, such as Himitsuhana and Angela Rossi
In addition to designs by Young & Battaglia, the Mineheart range contains a range of work by other national and internationally recognised artists. These include Chad Wys, Himitsuhana, Angele Rossi and Courtney Brims. Their designs fit well with the Mineheart signature style that mixes classical ideas with contemporary design.
4) Nearly all their products are made in the UK
Key to Mineheart’s ethos is the support of British design and manufacturing. Most Mineheart products are made in the UK in small batches, this enables more control over production, giving greater flexibility, and the ability to offer custom made variations often at very little additional cost to clients. They are made by passionate people, who love, live and breathe interior design ensuring a consistent quality.

5) Their designs are full of humour
Who else would create a miniature chandelier in a glass bulb, daub a classical oil painting with fluorescent paint and create an animal menagerie of artworks for your wall. A daily dose of Mineheart is guaranteed to make you smile.
Young and Battaglia's top picks:
"We love this lamp, it is made from the softest ostrich feathers hung from delicate gold arms. To us it represents pure luxury."
"Is it art or vandalism? You decide - like much of our work, it prompts a question."
"We love the deep inky blues in this rug and the addition of the spots with the Persian design brings a contemporary touch."
