5 Reasons Why We are Obsessed with Lauren Baker

Posted on September 13 2016

In the lead up to CultureCatalyst Exhibition we are getting super excited about the featured artists!

From neon to crystal; here are 5 reasons why we are obsessed with Lauren Baker

Here at CultureLabel, we love Lauren’s works. Although originally associated with shop windows, neon lights have recently become popular in the art world with many contemporary artists discovering its charm. Neon lighting has been used as an art material since the minimalism era, with icons such as Dan Flavin lighting the way. Lauren creates neon signs with a personalised twist, creating unique, eye-catching messages.

Text-based work

Text-based artworks have recently been taking the world by storm, with people buying inspirational phrases to fill their house with positive vibes. But why have “Work Hard, Play Hard” on your wall, when you can have ‘Everything is Going to be Fucking Amazing’…? We know which mind-set we’d rather be in.

The CultureLabel team are like magpies – we love anything metallic or sparkly and Lauren is well known for making impressive, glittering works. Best known, is probably her ‘Crystal Grand Piano’, for which she was commissioned by a private client to cover a Steinway Piano in 500,000 Swarovski crystals. She also created a life size tiger head covered in 50,000 crystals, which was auctioned in aid of Save Wild Tigers alongside the work of 20 other artists, raising a total of £62,000! Something that sparkles and helps charity? What more could you want?!

Investment pieces

We consider Lauren’s work to be great investment pieces – and we aren’t the only ones! Lauren has received great interest in the press, with huge names such as the BBC, the Tate, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue and many art publications recognising her talent and interest. She has also created works for the Tate Britain and V&A and was labelled as ‘highly collectable’ by M&C Saatchi – better get collecting!

Lauren also creates stunning abstract paintings, two of which are available on Culture Label. We’re certain these delicate works will take your fancy. Don’t worry – they sparkle too!
