Best-selling author Rosie Garland talks of her
excitement about the Bridgeman Studio Award 2016
We are extremely excited to once again be partnering with Bridgeman Studio to bring you the third annual Bridgeman Studio Award!
Enter the Bridgeman Studio Award 2016 and you could win a £1,000 commission to design the front cover of award-winning author Rosie Garland’s next title, published by The Borough Press, an imprint of HarperCollins.
Bridgeman Studio recently caught up with best-selling author Rosie Garland to discuss the art of book covers, her thoughts on what she looks for in a book cover and how she feels about the commission for her next title...
Rosie Garland: "Ezra Pound said ‘a book should be a ball of light in the hand’. Why limit that to the words? A good book delights, engages, surprises, and even challenges a reader. I love it when a cover does that also."
Rosie Garland: "A great cover intrigues, presses itself into the imagination and stands out on the shelf. It can whet the appetite. Follow you around. Not to mention, spur the action of picking the book from the shelf!"
When it came to working with Rosie Garland for the Bridgeman Studio Award 2016 we couldn't have been more excited, but Rosie is equally thrilled for the artists who are already entering the competition from around the world.
Rosie Garland: "It is rare and exciting to have a new piece of artwork commissioned for a work of fiction. I am thrilled and honoured that my next novel will boast an amazing cover as a result of the The Bridgeman Studio Award 2016. It is a wonderful opportunity to tell a visual story about Night and all that means to you."
If you are an artist you still have time to be part of the Bridgeman Studio Award 2016, as the competition closes on the 30th June 2016. You will have the opportunity to work with Rosie and the teams from The Borough Press and Harper Collins.
Visit the website BSA2016.com where you can find out all the information you need, listen to the podcast and enter up to 5 pieces of your work that fit the theme of 'Night.'
You can enter new or existing work and if you win you will then be given a brief about Rosie Garland's amazing new title to work on the commission. It doesn't matter where you are located, what level you are in your career. So what are you waiting for? You could be seeing your art on Rosie's next title in a book store near you!
