Product Description

Diana Taylor graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2010 with an M.F.A in Painting.

She studied B.A (Hons) Fine Art at Bath Spa University College and graduated in 1999. Between these degrees she taught art and design for 5 years.

Taylor was shortlisted for the Abbey Scholarship in Painting at the British School at Rome in 2010 and was a finalist in 2009 for the Fringe MK Painting Prize.

“I’m trying to discover what is lost: searching for what was once there; collecting familiar, long forgotten objects and pictures of things thrown away, and yet, deeply embedded in our past.

Screen prints of wood block prints, painted cross stitch patterns, illustrations, maps, comic imagery and other printed ephemera form a non linear narrative within the pictorial ground.

The wooden ground which I paint and print onto often informs the depicted landscape; it is a neutral and natural breathing space within a chaotic melting pot of fragmented, mass produced and artificial images.

Like a D.J I mix these samples; high and low art, East and West, the old and the new, the natural and the artificial. The grain of the wood inspires what appear to be islands or clouds.

A sense of journey across the shifting landscape, both physically and through memory, and the relationship this has with the mass produced images which travel our own consciousness are central to my practice.”
