This collection of quarter scale costumes exhibited at the Royal Opera House has been created by costume designer Vin Burnham, who started her career at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in the Fonteyn and Nureyev era, making costumes and props for designers Nicholas Georgiadis, Yolanda Sonnabend, David Walker, Julia Trevelyan Oman, Maria Bjornson, Barry Kay, Stefanos Lazarides and Sally Jacobs.
Vin, now an international award winning costume designer, works mainly in film and television. Vin’s costumes can still be seen on stage at The Royal Opera House; her mouse costumes in Peter Wright’s ‘Nutcracker’, masks in Andre Serban’s ‘Turandot’, dwarf costumes in Anthony Dowell’s ‘Swan Lake’, and headdresses and costume props in Kenneth MacMillan’s ‘Mayerling’ and ‘Gloria’.
Vin has gone back to her roots at Covent Garden, by creating miniature opera and ballet costumes of her own designs.
Photographed by Richard Wilding.
