Stowed away in London’s East End lies a hive of innovation and creativity. Springing out of a thriving local artistic community in 1979, Matt’s Gallery has worked closely with emerging artists to produce cutting-edge pieces, aiming to provide the best possible conditions for exploring and developing new ideas.

The evolution of a new exhibition at Matt’s Gallery is an organic process. Working in intensive collaboration with the gallery’s director, Robin Klassnik, commissioned artists develop their project over several weeks or months, designing work specially formed and fitted for the exhibition space.
Through its unique exhibitions, artist talks and extensive research archive, Matt’s Gallery endeavours to cultivate critical discussion and debate, encouraging visitors to engage with the artworks.

Among the artists represented by Matt’s Gallery is Nathaniel Mellor, whose Fractal Haywain series of unique photographic prints match satire with surrealist dissolution of form.
Emma Hart’s Lesser To-Do List Bird also employs elements of the surreal, placing the clutter of everyday life on a giant bird claw in a manner that’s both whimsical and somewhat sinister.
