Product Description

David Austen
Man, 2008
photogravure etching on Fabriano Artistico 300gsm paper
edition of 15
47 x 38cm (paper size)

David Austen works in a variety of different media - painting, sculpture, printmaking and more recently, film. His work is bittersweet - always beautiful, but sometimes humorous and sometimes dark and melancholy.

Man comes from a suite of 21 photogravure etchings entitled Love, Cigarettes & Beer; which was published by Ingleby Gallery in 2008. Austen's suite of etchings consists of 17 text-based works and 4 photographic portraits. Individually, these prints feel like ambiguous characters or fragments of narrative from a film noir. The prints can be displayed individually, in small groups of prints or as a full suite.

Recent solo exhibitions include Camden Arts Centre (2007), Milton Keynes Gallery (2007) and My love, I have been digging up my own bones in the garden again at Ingleby Gallery (2009). Last year, David Austen was the Stanley Picker Fellow at Kingston University where he wrote and directed his first feature length film End of Love which will be screened later this year at Modern Art Oxford. David Austen's work is in many public collections including Tate Gallery, the Government Art Collection and the Arts Council of England.
