    David Shrigley
    Southbank Centre

David Shrigley is best known for his humorous drawings that make witty, wry and sometimes dark observations on everyday life. His deliberately crude graphic style has an immediate and accessible appeal, while simultaneously offering insightful commentary on the absurdities of human relationships.

“David Shrigley’s Hayward show is a quiet triumph of British wit”

This commemorative poster is based on the marketing artwork for the show that was used all over London and in advertising.

These plectums feature the legends ‘Wild Fowl’ and ‘Tits’. David Shrigley's a fan of birds you see.

Mondrian & Nicholson, The Courtauld Gallery

This exhibition explores the largely untold relationship between Piet Mondrian and Ben Nicholson during the 1930s. At this time the two artists were leading forces of abstract art in Europe.

Their friendship culminated with Mondrian moving to London in 1938, at Nicholson's invitation, where the two worked in neighbouring Hampstead studios at the centre of an international community of avant-garde artists.

    Damien Hirst
    Tate

This is the first substantial survey of his work in a British institution and brings together key works from over twenty years.

The exhibition includes iconic sculptures from his Natural History series, including The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living 1991, in which he suspended a shark in formaldehyde.

    Out of Focus
    Saatchi Gallery

The work on display aims to challenge the rules and perceptions of photography at a time when the industry is experiencing both complex and diverse challenges - with the huge presence of photography online, lines have been blurred between what is professional and what is amateur, what is documentary, art and fashion.

Indeed, questions are even being raised about the notion of whether photographers are artists.

    Staging the World
    The British Museum

The exhibition provides a unique insight into the emerging role of London as a world city, seen through the innovative perspective of Shakespeare’s plays.

—This is a triumph of detail and invention, both impressively scholastic and beguilingly playful. The exhibits may be in glass cases, but they provide a vivid conduit to the Bard's multi-layered universe.
