JONAS RANSON
Jonas Ranson is an international London based artist and a graduate of the Royal College of Art, specialising in print.
'The goal is to establish some kind of sense of wonder, not just in the client, but in myself also. This is the desired outcome always. My thoughts are with how I can create a spectacle'.

What's a day in the life of Jonas Ramson like?
'My current studio and my home are both in Hackney, between Dalston and London Fields. I’m usually to be found in the studio early, preparing screens for printing, mixing inks and setting up the screen bed'.
'I tend to designate days for printing and days for working on ideas and producing designs at home. I like the fact that I’m able to plan and compose the image before I commit'.
'Wall paper printing, by hand, the way I produce it is fairly labour intensive. I do everything on my own but am now looking to employ assistants, with new commissions coming in by the week'.

How do you make your wallpapers?
'I have used various other printing processes in the past, but have always found screen printing enabled me to produce work on the scale and with the vibrancy of colour I was aiming for'.
'It gives me lots of control. I also like the plastic, synthetic quality inherent in silk screen printing'.
'The work has a ‘manufactured’ look. I’m not after the organic quality that is an intrinsic quality of say… the etching process. Repetition and the ability to produce multiples, all are qualities which appeal to me.'

‘Although a very methodical and laboured process to prepare, the instantaneity of the final print is still a thrilling moment for me’.
'I use a fairly standard technique, which has been used in the newspaper and print industries for decades. But it’s certainly unusual when applied to wallpaper printing, and I add my own twists in order to create a more luxurious, richer finish’.
