Mandarava Bricaire is in Italian photography-based artist living and working in London. Her practice is divided between digital compositions and straight photography. Inspired by fashion, modernist art and contemporary idea and concept-loaded art, she tries to find her way out of them, proposing new meaningful aesthetic values in a post-idea/conceptual art practice.
Having shown her work in Milan, Siena and Monte Amiata, Mandarava has studied digital media in the USA and London, although her subject or settings often refer back to her closeness to her country of origin.
Mandarava Bricaire’s researches into the aesthetic values of fashion photography, in the midst of the contradicting and perplexing values of contemporary art and society. Her subjects seem to live inside a reality that appears obvious and obscure at the same time, her naïve look struggles inside a puzzling world filled with meaning and loaded with concepts.
I see theatricality and irony as possible tools for an artistic approach that aims at de-coding and simplifying ideas and concepts out of contemporary artistic exPress pickion. In my work colour, form and composition are the intermediary and translators between the subjects and their surroundings, between the desire of aesthetic and conceptual enjoyment, with the hope of finding a new integration and appreciation for life and art.
