Go Gagosian Shopping
February 4th, 2010 by Pippa
Is that another gallery shop to hit the high street I hear you cry? Why yes, the ever expanding Gagosian gallery has expanded once again and this time into the retail arena. The gallery already has a presence in New York, London, Rome, Athens and Beverly Hills…. And now has a brand new shop and with an enviable address too – the glitzy corner of Madison Avenue and 77th Street in Manhattan. The 2,500-square-foot, bi-level space, which opened to the public just a few weeks ago, is a sleek, clean-cut retail heaven. The store also inaugurates London’s very own & CutlureLabel partner Other Criteria, Damien Hirst’s publishing company and retail shop. The street-level portion includes a video art projection wall and a cosy reading lounge, complete with a leather sofa and decorated with a wall of nonvintage black-and-white photographs of Pop art stars. On sale you will find virtually all Gagosian books, art catalogues, posters, and prints, as well as limited editions by such notable artists as Jeff Koons, Marc Newson, Richard Prince, Ed Ruscha, and Franz West. Beyond the printed matter there is a eclectic array of merchandise that would satisfy the appetite of even the hungriest of cultural shoppers. Particularly eye-catching is this rather crazy looking “Puppy” flower pot / vase by Jeff Koons – Not sure how well it would go in my living room but it would certainly make one hell of a centre piece!
