Off the wall art
February 2nd, 2010 by Pippa
The Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester is holding an exhibition of wallpapers designed by more than 30 artists including Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas and David Shrigley. If your bedroom needs a bit of a spruce up this is one way to go about it. These wallpapers go beyond domestic use however; and encompass themes of imprisonment, sexuality and subversion. The collection illustrates a cross over between the contemporary art world and simple home decoration and will run until 3rd May. For more info visit the ‘Walls Art Talking’ site here.
For some more affordable but equally arty wallpaper, CultureLabel have some inspired offerings. This ‘Net and Ball’ pattern is taken from the carpet designed for the Royal Festival Hall by Peter Moro and Leslie Martin in 1951. For something a bit wilder, this scribble print illustrated paper is elegantly hip from Beyond the Valley.
