This saw the 55th iteration of I.D. magazine’s Annual Design Review, a competition presenting the best and brightest of the past year’s designs, from the iconic to the obscure. The jury is comprised of I.D.’s editorial staff along with leading practitioners in the fields of product, furniture, graphic, and environment design. Featured right is Coca Cola’s 8.5-ounce aluminum bottle, a packaging masterstroke which plays upon Coke’s iconic original glass bottle but presenting a light-weight, ecological alternative. The design is an example of the brand trading on its heritage intelligently. Also pictured is student Shelly Shelly’s Loft Chair, designed for manufacturer Bernhardt. This simple design is both modern and classic owing it’s versatility in part to the fact that it was created using both cutting-edge digital design programs and traditional woodworking techniques. Beautiful in its simplicity we wouldn’t mind one of these future design classics adorning our loft!
