Check out Gerald the Dog, from Manchester company Lazerian, who is a three dimensional, DIY dog who has already visited a numder of National Exhibitions and is now set to make waves in the UK art scene. Thanks to the popularity of the dogs so far, Lazerian have invited a selection of artists and illustrators to do a design on him. Art installations are fundamental to the spirit of The Secret Garden Party – they are bold, interactive works that make the Garden a place for exploration and contemplation. We believe in Art’s power, especially when it is free from the restrictions of the Gallery.

Secret Garden Party 2010
Date: 22-25 July 2010
Address: near Cambridge
Freddie Fellowes, founder of the Secret Garden Party and CVTF500 member, has invited Courvoisier to create a landmark installation at this year’s iconic festival. Seizing the opportunity to take Courvoisier’s Summer Of Punch to a new level, they’ve whipped up an engineering extravaganza to quench the thirst of every Secret Garden Party reveller: pedal-powered punch. Built by Circus Kinetica, the machine is part of the ‘Fact or Fiction’ theme of the 2010 festival. To be unveiled at the Secret Garden Party opening ceremony on 22 July, it will continue to whirr throughout the weekend under the guidance of performers from Gideon Reeling Theatre Company.
For more information on The Secret Garden Party, or to buy tickets, visit the festival’s website.

The 2010 Theme…

The Party is once again set to undergo a transformation, with this years theme unveiled as Fact or Fiction, tearing down the boundaries between the two assumptions.

In 2010 The Secret Garden Party will be prizing open the chinks in man’s most carefully constructed edifice; Reality. The Garden will be exploring the theories, fantasies, mysteries, legends, visions and illusions that have created a rich world between Fact and Fiction.

The Kinetic Punch Distillery
This beautiful, towering, kinetic punch-making sculpture-cum-foutain has been especially commissioned for The Garden. Twenty feet tall, made from salvaged copper and reclaimed metal, the machine sits in brooding expectation, a gentle thrumming of potential. Gardeners board the bikes to activate the installation and the French Revolution Courvoisier punch is pumped to the top of the helixes and fountains. Slowly it starts filling the small top reservoir and begins trickling then pouring around the helix, decanting from pool to pool as it works its way to your glass. The punch machine leaps into action with lime guillotine, ice smasher and glass holder all wheeling into action at once to make your perfect drink.

-Circus Kinetika are a Brighton based collective who have created this amazing cocktail-making machine using old salvaged metal parts including bike parts.

CL reporter Amos got a great interview from Daryoush – Online Fashion Editor of VICE UK which has just launched and boasts a massive 16 fashion shoots a month which provides great opportunity for new designers.

Here he is speaking about changes in journalism through online media, fashion, opportunity growth and how, these days, fashion, photography and journalism have merged together, meaning that now everyone must be skilled at several crossover areas.

This great idea of changing the art on display around in a bar every few months (instead of the decor) intrigued us so CultureLabel sat down with the curator for a chat and a cocktail.
The first exhibition / installation in the space is a great array of works by and from the collection of Robert ‘Gordon’ McHarg III, founder of the Subway Gallery.
Located on Islington Green, a few steps from Upper Street, Playtime is a swish cocktail bar offering a fine selection of drinks and an even more impressive selection of interior design and art.

Gordon explains how the idea came about in our video above.

CultureLabel had a great night at the launch of the Trekstock Pop-Up shop just off Carnaby Street on Broadwick Street. Doubling up as a gallery space, exhibiting exclusively signed artwork, the Trekshop has also collaborated with some of the UK’s best street artists to bring the pop-up shop to life.

It runs till the 15th of July and sees the likes of Bloc Party, Delphic, Devendra Banhart, Ellie Goulding, Foals, The Horrors, Little Boots, Local Natives, The Maccabees and Yeasayer create t-shirt designs in support of the Trekstock Charity.

Carnaby is proud to be working with music and fashion charity Trekstock – raising awareness and support for young people with cancer. This year Trekstock announced its new partnership with Cancer Research UK and first patron Mark Ronson.

Trekstock is a warm and inviting brand, conveying a positive message that celebrities all over the world from Kings of Leon to Oasis have been proud to support it since its humble beginnings. Through affiliations with music and fashion – they aim to provide a platform to reach and educate young people and raise money for a very worthwhile cause.
All ten limited edition t-shirt designs will be on sale at the Trekstock pop-up shop between July 1st-15th. The ‘Trekshop’ will also offer shoppers the chance to get their t-shirts signed by some of the artists involved in the project as well as announcing guest DJ sets and appearances throughout the pop-up shops residency on Carnaby Street.

There’ll be street art, signings, special guests, competitions and music over the next few days, so don’t miss it.
