We are very pleased to officially announce the launch of our new international product design competition in partnership with the ICA, London; Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin; Triennele Museum, Milan; the London Design Festival and Real Brand & Business.

The competition is calling for designs for innovative new museum- and gallery- shop products from all over the world and in return offers the winners financial remuneration and, more importantly, access into some of the most important culture institutions worldwide.

Gavin Turk of the Young British Artists (YBA) movement and Peter Blake, creator of the classic Beatles’ cover of “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band”, have both submitted ideas in collaboration with the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair. See the competition website at www.releaseonedotzero.com to see the designs they’ve submitted.

An influential jury from the worlds of design, art and culture will sort through all the entries to pick the final three winning designs (in three different price categories), which will be sold in the shops of the competition’s international museum and gallery partners. The designers will be paid a revenue share of the product sales (7% of the wholesale price) and they will retain the full IP rights of their innovation. More importantly, the competition offers entrants exposure in some of the most prolific cultural institutions.

The jury comprises:

  • Ambra Medda – Director, Design Miami & Design Fair ArtBasel
  • Ben Evans – Director, London Design Festival
  • Benjamin Allder – Art Director, MTV Sticky magazine
  • Ekow Eshun – Artistic Director, ICA
  • Thorsten Van Elten – Designer
  • Virginia Bruce – CEO, Real Brand & Business
  • Frances Raynolds – Acquisitions Board & Patron, Tate Modern

Anna Hyde, Marketing Director, ICA said: “The ICA’s priority is supporting emerging talent and showcasing the very best in new ideas. This competition is a democratic way to expose design talent and bring quality new products into the shop.”

Benjamin Allder, Art Director, MTV Sticky magazine said: “An amazing innovation boost for culture retail and a great opportunity for us designers.”
