Policy advice
CultureLabel provides a unique angle on sustainable income generation for the not-for-profit arts, heritage and cultural sectors.
We base our insights on a rare combination of our experience in both artistic and commercial environments.
We match this with hands-on experience as cultural entrepreneurs, and a comprehensive analysis of the interaction between culture and consumers.
CultureLabel has been used globally by policy makers to stimulate cultural entrepreneurship within not-for-profit arts, museum and heritage sectors.
We can identify strategic policy interventions to support income generation, recommend structural interventions and manage and deliver specific policy interventions.
Depending on the particular situation, our role may be to facilitate, to inspire, to unite, to challenge, to research, to prioritise, to recommend or to implement.

Museums, Libraries, Archives Council
CultureLabel was awarded the Entrepreneurial Museum contract by the MLA and Renaissance to develop a set of recommendations to help museums become more financially sustainable in a difficult economic climate. As part of the project we created the Intelligent Naivety book and blog to create awareness of current entreprenurial ideas and trends that museums needed to be aware of. We also made recommedations for Local Authority Museums and independents as a cluster.
Mobile for the Cultural Sector conference
The web is now truly mobile with 29% of web usage already via mobile devices (GlobalWebIndex). Billions of Apps have been downloaded for iPhone's and Android devices.
In response to the opportunities this is creating CultureLabel developed Mobile for the Cultural Sector. Over 500 delegates from across technology and cultural sectors attended the inaugural annual event on the subject bringing a focus and dialogue around this fast developing frontier of the digital revolution.
Speakers included Wired, Google, Timeout, Vodafone Tate, British Library, Tesco, Penguin, Nokia, O2, Sky and Harper Collins. The keynote was given by Ed Vaizey, Minister for Culture who also launched CultureLabel’s Digital Museum initiative 12-months earlier.
We were delighted to partner with NESTA on this event, who announced details of a new Digital R&D initiative in partnership with Arts Council England
The venue for the event was the stunning new £70 million Ravensbourne College next to the O2 London. Delegates were then invited into the O2 itself here a VIP reception was hosted by the British Music Experience / AEG.

Arts Council England and Creative Scotland
CultureLabel collaborated with Arts Council England and Creative Scotland to develop the world’s first online contemporary art marketplace where affordable art works can be bought with interest free loans. Arts Council England have operated the highly successful Own Art initiative for the last five-years which was recently the subject of an enthusiastic BBC documentary with Alan Yentob. The Own Art scheme is designed to make it easy to buy art by making art affordable and we made it our mission to create a simple way for consumers to buy works online through an interest free loan in the same way you can conveniently buy other products such as electronics. Through Own Art, UK tax payers can purchase contemporary art and craft including art works jewellery and craft pieces.
Own Art loans are available from as little as £100 up to £2,000 to buy art in any media from one of our partner art galleries in the Own Art scheme, provided that it is by a living artist. Since 2011, through CultureLabel.com, you have been able apply online for an Own Art loan to buy any eligible art. The scheme has already achieved sales in excess of the initial Arts Council investment.
Most recently the scheme has been extended so that interactive terminals where you can browse and buy the works have been installed in a number of leading arts institutions including the Saatchi Gallery, Barbican and the Royal Scottish Academy.
Own Art loans are repayable over 10 months in interest free instalments, 0%APR typical - so you’ll never be paying more than the advertised price.

Beyond Experience: Culture, Consumer & Brand - Report by Pine & Gilmoure
CultureLabel managed the delivery of this research study for national charity and arts development agency Arts & Business by Pine & Gilmoure, authors of influential book The Experience Economy and Authenticity. The report explored how brands and businesses can rebuild relationships with their markets through dynamic and innovative associations with culture and the arts. We also worked with them to project manage the annual Private Investment in Arts survey.
