IKON
Ikon is the internationally acclaimed contemporary art venue situated in central Birmingham. Housed in the neo - gothic Oozell's Street school it is an educational charity and works to encourage public engagement with contemporary art, through exhibiting new work in a context of debate and participation.
The gallery programme features worldwide artists, exhibiting in a variety of media, including sound, film, mixed media, photography, painting, sculpture and installation. The offsite programme develops dynamic relationships between art, artists and the public. Scale, duration and location vary enormously, challenging expectations of art, it's place and who sees it.
Education is at the heart of Ikon's activities, through talks, tours and workshops, the Learning team build meaningful relationships with Ikon's audiences, particularly families and children.
Ikon houses Birmingham's only specialist art shop. Here you will find a wide, encompassing array of book titles from Graphic Design, Architecture, Art Theory, Monographs as well as a bounteous selection of Ikon exhibition catalogues. The shop also has one of Europe's best collections of art & culture magazine titles, and specialist gifts such as the Blackbird Fly Camera. There really is something for everyone.
